Respiratory therapists are also known as the respiratory specialists, or as the respiratory therapy technicians. A respiratory job expects the respiratory therapist to take the responsibility of preventing, treating, and evaluating cardiopulmonary and the breathing illnesses. Most of the Respiratory jobs take place in some hospital. Besides hospitals other preferred locations are the respiratory care, pulmonary medicine department and anesthesiology centers.

Respiratory jobs can also take place in various other settings, like private office of some physician, universities, laboratories, nursing facilities, clinics, patient’s home, or intensive care units. Within the premises of the intensive care unit, the respiratory specialist can work with the infants, elders or with some accident victims. Respiratory therapists also work with the Patients who are suffering from the lung diseases, the heart disease, or form some neuromuscular problems. The Respiratory jobs aims at curing all these diseases. Most of the Respiratory jobs require a standard work week. These may have varied schedules or shifts that may vary. Respiratory therapists may also encounter the disorders like chest trauma, cystic fibrosis, asthma, fibrosis, bronchitis, pneumonia, and emphysema.

Duties of the respiratory therapists may vary according to the job locations. Most of the Respiratory jobs typically include creation of the patient care plans, running of the diagnostic procedures, and providing of the therapy according to the needs of the patient. Most of the diagnostic procedures include things like sleep studies, sputum specimen analysis, exercise and stress testing, cardiac testing, and arterial blood testing. A respiratory therapist must conduct the proper assessment of the patient that includes tasks like taking and studying the medical history of the patient, review of the symptoms, and then performing the basic medical exam.

Any individual who is interested in the Respiratory jobs need to have the proper study and knowledge of the subjects like biology, health, physics, mathematics, and chemistry. It is also the required that the person should be comfortable in working with public and should be able to handle the stressful conditions.

To get a respiratory job, the respiratory therapist, should have some Associate Degree that is obtained through some community or some technical college, or university. People who are seeking Respiratory jobs in the advanced setting need to pursue a Bachelor`s Degree. The respiratory therapists may also choose to include the subjects like mathematics, microbiology, human anatomy, path physiology, physiology, physics, and chemistry in their curriculum.
